Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil a smaller, budget version of its Galaxy Tab 3 tablet at CES 2014
The
rumoured tablet is said to have rock-bottom specs. It will come with a
seven-inch display with a 1024 by 600 pixel display, a 1.2GHz dual-core
A9 processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Samsung will reportedly take
the wraps off the tablet at the Consumer Electronics
Show in January.
The specs – many of which are one or two generations down the line – do suggest that Samsung will be targeting the tablet at the budget end of the market.
Some reports have suggested that the tablet could be priced as low as £100. It would also significantly undercut rivals like Apple, while maintaining the Galaxy Tab brand name.
The rumour comes days after it was reported that Samsung is considering launching two new tablets with next-generation AMOLED technology.
Most tablets available today – including Apple’s Retina models – use LCD technology. Using AMOLED-based tablets would allow for higher resolution screens at a lower cost to the maker and less of a strain on the device’s battery.
