Not anymore; because the 3.0 Facebook Messenger update now enables you to text anyone in your contacts outside Facebook by obtaining your number and accessing your contact list.

The new iOS update, soon available for Android, comes with a new sleek design to match the iOS7 feel as well as a badge to label users who can be reached instantly from the Messenger app. From settings, you can control in-app sounds and vibration option.
