The ongoing Beijing Auto Show will be last of the venues the Maserati
Kubang will be on view as the Italian exotic car maker has announced
that there will be no further public appearances for the concept. The
sporty concept previewing a future addition to the Maserati stable was
shown in a host of venues including Dubai and Detroit after its global
premiere at the Frankfurt Auto Show last year in September.
The Kubang crossover SUV concept will head to the next stage of its life surrendering to stylists and engineers who are tasked with transforming it into a road-going model. During this metamorphosis, the name is also expected to change. The complete process could consume the whole of 2012 and 2013 if the word on the street is to be believed.
The Detroit Motor Show in January of 2014 could be a possible venue for the production model's world debut. Riding on the platform of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the proposed SUV could source engines either from Chrysler or Ferrari.
The Kubang SUV could be an idea Maserati conceived after witnessing the positive market response for luxury crossover SUVs from rival brands such as Porsche. The Volkswagen Group is pressing on and introducing two such models under the Lamborghini and Bentley brands in the next 3-4 years. This could have fueled the desire of Maserati to create a competitor
