2012 Mercedes-AMG Performance Tour at YAS

The 2012 Mercedes-AMG performance tour at the Yas Marina circuit saw three new models from Mercedes-Benz’ fierce Affalterbach division step into the ring. The newly launched trio of the E 63 AMG, SLK 55 AMG and ML 63 AMG gave motoring journalists from the Middle Eastern region a taste of what AMG performance is all about.


Capping a fleet that included the C 63 AMG, C 63 AMG Coupé, CLS 63 AMG, SLS AMG, and SLS AMG GT3, the new AMG trio were driven around the Yas Marina circuit for hours under the supervision of top track experts and racers.

This event provided us with an opportunity to learn the techniques of handling high performance cars in extreme, adrenalin-fuelled track driving conditions. A one-on-one ML 63 AMG drag race and braking showdown pushed drivers to the limit. We were also given taxi-rides in the SLS AMG GT3, which consisted of one hot lap around the circuit.

Mercedes-AMG is looking at setting up an AMG Driving Academy at the Yas Marina circuit. If it all goes according to plan, this academy will allow potential buyers and enthusiasts to experience first hand the thrill of trying AMG cars to their limit under the guidance of experts who know these products inside out.
