The Ford Mustang may not be having the time of its life being outsold
by the Chevrolet Camaro in recent years, but it could soon change with
the introduction of the next generation model based on the Evos concept,
the Wall Street Journal has reported.
Ford is said to be considering a four-cylinder engine with turbocharging to meet emission and fuel economy standards for the new Mustang. It could drop the retro wardrobe for an updated outfit designed similarly to the Ford Evos. Its front end could bear resemblances with other Ford models such as the redesigned Fusion.
The Ford Evos Concept could be the starting point for the new Mustang aimed at Gen Y
Enthusiasts call it the Aston-faced Mustang and expect it to have powerful visual features such as the protruding hood, rounded headlamps and some of the Evos' roofline. A mash-up of the Evos and the contemporary design elements of the Mustang is expected to unfold on the bodywork of the successor.
The design transformation could be carried out to make the Mustang entice Gen Y. Research in the US has shown that those born between 1980-1999 are reaching their peak car buying years much before their parents.
Like any other model in the modern Ford lineup, the new addition will follow the 'One Ford' strategy making the Mustang, for the first time, a global model that includes a RHD variant. It will share its platform and engines with other models in the lineup. For the same reason, the 2015 Ford Mustang is likely to armed with an Ecoboost engine from the current range and make features like voice-activated controls, a more advanced infotainment system and other electronic bits borrowed from new Fords available on the 2015 Mustang.
