The Rockstar-developed Grand Theft Auto V title has entered the
record books as the fastest-selling video game of all time. The title
has achieved more than $1 billion during its first three days on sale,
which equates to 12 million units in its first day (including
pre-orders) and 16.5 million units in three days.
“Grand
Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to
redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment. We are
incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response
to Grand Theft Auto V. We believe this marks the fastest that any
entertainment property, including video games and feature films, has
reached this significant milestone,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and
CEO of Take-Two.
Set in a satirical reimagining of modern day Southern California, Grand Theft Auto V offers players the freedom to explore the dense urban metropolis of Los Santos and the wide open countryside of Blaine County; plan and execute a series of epic heists; meet a vast array of strangers and freaks; or participate in a host of activities, from golf to arms trafficking, base jumping to yoga and much more.
