LG launched its first Firefox OS-based smartphone on Wednesday.
The LG Fireweb is a four-inch device that runs Mozilla’s mobile operating system. The OS is primarily aimed at developing markets.However, there has also been a large amount of interest in the software from developed markets.
The LG Fireweb is an entry-level smartphone. It is aimed at users who aren’t looking for a wide range of features and instead are looking for basic smartphone functionality.
It features a 480 by 320 pxel HVGA TFT touchscreen display, a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and 2GB of RAM. It also comes with a five megapixel camera and LED flash.
“Telefónica announced that Vivo will sell the new LG Fireweb and Alcatel One Touch Fire Firefox OS phones in Brazil, starting today,” Mozilla wrote on its official blog.
“Telefónica also announced that they will launch Firefox OS phones soon in Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.”
There is no word on whether or not the phone will make it to the UK.
Firefox OS-based smartphones are currently available in Spain, Columbia, Venezuela, Greece, Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro and Brazil.

“Our partnership with Telefónica Vivo demonstrates the rich, new experiences offered on Firefox OS by combining the best global and local content with LG’s elegant new device experience.”
